Sharad Tripathi is a member of BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) and has won the 2014 General Elections after defeating Bhism Shankar Alias Kushal of BSP party from the Sant Kabir Nagar (Lok Sabha Constituency). He is also the President of the Football Association, Sant Kabir Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
He came into limelight when he was caught on camera while beating up Party MLA Rakesh Singh Baghel during a meeting of the District Action Plan Committee at the Sant Kabir Nagar Collectorate.
