Saalumarada Thimmakka is an Indian environmentalist from the State of Karnataka. She is known for her work in planting 385 Banyan trees along a 4km highway between Hulikal and Kudur. She also planted 8000 other trees. She was born in Gubbi Taluk, Tumukuru District, Karnataka.
Her husband “Chikkaiah” died in 1991. She worked as a casual laborer in a nearby quarry. She didn’t have a child from her husband and also wanted to commit suicide when she was in her 40s . According to the sources, Saalumarada Thimmakka started to plant banyan trees in lieu of children.
Her work appreciated by the Government of India and awarded her with Padma Shri in 2019.
