Balbir Singh Sr. Career:
At the time of his education, Harbail Singh was the first person who spotted him as a promising hockey player.
In 1942, he was selected in the Punjab University Hockey team. Under his captaincy, the Team won 3 years continuously “All India Inter-University” titles.
After the partition of India, he shifted to Ludhiana where he got a job in the Punjab Police.
He played his first International match with Argentina team at the 1948 London Olympics.
He played the role of vice-captaincy in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. He also set a record when he scored five goals against the Netherland team in the Final match.
He also captained in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
Balbir Singh Sr. was Manager and Chief of the Indian hockey team for 1975 World Cup, which Indian won.
He was honored in the Olympic Museum exhibition, “The Olympic Journey: The Story of the Games” held at the Royal Opera House.
He was also appointed as Chief of the Directorate of Sports in Punjab.
