Delhi Police solved a six-month-old blind murder case and arrested a man for allegedly killing his 28-year-old live-in partner, slicing up her body into 35 pieces, and dispersing them throughout the national capital.
According to the police, the suspect, named as Mumbai resident Aftab Amin Poonawalla (28), was arrested on Saturday on a basis of the deceased’s father’s complaint and has been placed on police remand for five days. According to officials, the victim, Shraddha Walker, 27, of Mumbai met the accused while working at a call center in Mumbai.
In Mumbai, they met through a dating app. They moved to Delhi and had been living together for three years. Shraddha began pressuring the man to marry her soon after the two moved to Delhi, according to Additional DCP-I South Delhi Ankit Chauhan. The two quarreled frequently and it used to get out of control. In this particular instance that occurred on May 18, the man lost his temper and strangled her,” said Chouhan.
The accused allegedly chopped her body into 35 pieces, bought a refrigerator, and kept them in it. He later started disposing of the body pieces at different locations in and around Delhi during night hours for the next 18 days, said sources.
According to additional sources, Aftab used to sleep each day in the same room where he had sliced up Shraddha’s body after killing her. After storing it in the refrigerator, he used to see the face. After getting rid of the corpse parts, Aftab cleaned the refrigerator.
Before meeting Shraddha, sources claimed Aftab had relationships with other girls. He also watched a lot of crime films and web series prior to the crime, particularly the American crime thriller Dexter.
The victim’s friend told the victim’s family in September that Shradhha had cut off touch with her for the previous two and a half months and that her cell phone had also been turned off. Her family also looked at her social media accounts, but there had been no recent posts.
The victim’s father told the police about his daughter’s relationship with Aftab and suspected his involvement in his daughter’s absence. During the investigation, it was found that Aaftab and Shraddha had come to Delhi and started living in a rented apartment in the ChhatterPur Pahadi area. The police during the course of the investigation, traced Aftab and nabbed him.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to the crime and claimed that they frequently quarreled because Shraddha was pressuring him to be married.
Police also found some bones in the accused’s leased apartment, and authorities said they were working to find the rest of the corpse.
