Bob Blizzard Education:
He went to a school in Bury St Edmunds and the University of Birmingham. He received his BA degree from there in 1971.
Bob Blizzard Political Career:
He became a councilor in 1987 and was elected as the leader of the Waveney District Council in 1991. Bob Blizzard elected for the 1997 General Election fought for the Waveney seat.
It was the year of Labour’s landslide victory, when he defeated longtime Conservative MP David Porter with over 12,000 votes, and became the first Labour MP in Waveney since 1979.
From 1997 to 1999 he was a member of the Environmental Audit Select Committee. In 1999, he was appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Baroness Hayman, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Fishing at the Ministry of Agriculture.
After the 2001 General Election, he became PPS to the Rt Hon Nick Brown MP, who was then Minister for Work at the Department for Work and Pensions. Blizzard quit his job in 2003 to protest against the Iraq War.
Following Gordon Brown’s October 2008 reshuffle, Blizzard was promoted from an Assistant Whip to a Government Whip otherwise known as a ‘Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury’.
He also served as Secretary of the Jazz Appreciation APPG (2004–2007).
On October 21, 2011, Blizzard was selected as Labour’s prospective parliamentary nominee by the Constituency Labour Party. He was voted in with the most number of ballot votes.
