Ghey was found with multiple stab wounds on a path in Culcheth Linear Park by members of the public on the afternoon of 11 February 2023. At 3:13 p.m., emergency services were contacted, and she was pronounced dead on the spot. The cause of death will be determined by a Home Office postmortem.
Before her death, Ghey had experienced years of transphobic harassment. A 15-year-old boy and a girl have been arrested on suspicion of her murder. According to Cheshire Police, they are from the nearby area and are still being held. DCS Mike Evans indicated that police felt it was a “targeted attack,” but that they were looking into numerous avenues to uncover the actual circumstances of her death.
