Doug Mulray Career:
Mulray began his broadcasting career at 2AD in Armidale after attending the Digamae Radio School. He then made his way south, landing a job with Central Coast station 2GO Gosford. He worked on 3AW Melbourne’s “Mulray & The Man” programme in the mid-1970s. In the late 1970s, he began a full-time job with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s alternative rock station 2JJ (later Triple J) in Sydney, where he amassed a sizable fan base. He was hired by a new station, Triple M, in 1982.
After leaving Triple M, he briefly worked in the PM drive time slot on 2SM with Peter FitzSimons before moving to Sydney radio station 2WS, where he remained until July 1999. He never regained the ratings he had at his previous station, Triple M.
His breakfast show was named the third-best Australian metro FM breakfast show of all time by industry analyst Radio Today in 2014.
Mulray has appeared on Australian TV shows such as Beauty and the Beast, and in 1992 hosted infamous Australia’s Naughtiest Home Videos, which was pulled from broadcast after 34 minutes by Nine Network owner Kerry Packer.
He was also the host of the Mulray show, which aired briefly on the Seven Network in the early 1990s. He also briefly hosted Beauty and the Beast on Network Ten in 2002.
Australia’s Naughtiest Home Videos was re-aired on the Nine Network in August 2008. Mulray reportedly turned down requests from Nine executives to return as the host.
