Vikas Divyakirti bio

Dr. Vikas Divyakirti is a trainer, author, and speaker for the Indian Administrative Service. He is the founder and director of the UPSC coaching institute Drishti IAS Coaching Courses in Delhi. He launched the “Drishti IAS” YouTube channel, posting study material, lectures, and exam preparation strategy videos. The channel has more than 9 million subscribers (As of Feb 2023). Dr. Vikas Divyakirti Education:

He did schooling at Saraswati Shishu Mandir in Bhiwani, Haryana. He attended Zakir Husain Delhi College, Delhi University, where he pursued a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons. ); however, he later changed his stream from commerce to arts as most of his friends began preparing for the UPSC examination, and they advised him to do the same, after which he pursued a BA in History at Delhi University. According to Dr. Vikas, his family relocated to Faridabad from Bhiwani in Haryana while he was in his third year of graduation. He then studied his MA in Hindi Literature through evening classes at Zakir Husain College after being unable to enroll in the course at the Delhi University campus.

In Hindu College, he finished his MA final. While finishing his MA, he passed the UGC NET JRF examination and received a Rs 2,500 monthly scholarship. Vikas also has an MA (Sociology), M. Phil, LLB, and Ph.D. Vikas was interested in language translation and earned a postgraduate degree in English to Hindi translation from Delhi University.

Dr. Vikas Divyakirti Career:

He opted to take the UPSC examination after completing a Master of Arts degree. In 1996, he took the UPSC test and passed it on the first try, including sociology as an optional subject; he was ranked 384. Vikas was appointed Assistant Commandant of the CISF, however, he was deemed medically unfit for the position due to his flat feet. Afterward, he worked for the Ministry of Home Affairs’ central secretariat. He attempted again the following year but failed to pass the main examination. While obtaining his Ph.D., he attempted a third time with philosophy as an optional; however, he failed the interview phase.

He obtained his joining letter for the central secretariat in 1999, but he did not join. Later, he entered the service because he was in debt at the time, and the sole reason he enlisted was to pay off his bills. He was sent to the home ministry and, at his request, was allocated to the Rajbhasha department, where he was employed as a desk/section officer; however, he quit after six months of service. He took his fourth and last attempt in 2003, but did not pass the examination; he took this attempt while teaching at his coaching institute, Drishti IAS.

He started the Drishti IAS Coaching Courses in Delhi in 1999 with the goal of providing simplified coaching for UPSC students. To help students prepare for the UPSC exam, Vikas used a unique teaching technique.

Vikas is also the editor of the monthly current affairs magazine Drishti Current Affairs Today.

He taught at DAV College in Delhi for four months while studying for his third UPSC examination try.

He won the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) election in his locality in Delhi in 2015.

Dr Vikas Divyakirti Family:

His father worked as a Hindi literature lecturer at a college associated with Maharshi Dayanand University in Rohtak, Haryana.  He has two older brothers. His eldest brother works as a software engineer in the United States. His elder brother is a civil servant who works for the CBI as a DIG.

On May 26, 1997, he married Dr. Taruna Verma (MD at Drishti- The Vision). The couple has a son named Satwik Divyakirti.
