Gary Rossington was a songwriter and musician from the United States. He was the final original member of the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, where he played both lead and rhythm guitar.

Gary Rossington Career:
Rossington’s preferred instrument was a 1959 Gibson Les Paul that he had purchased from a woman whose boyfriend had abandoned her and left behind his guitar. He named it “Berniece” after his mother.
On “Tuesday’s Gone,” Rossington played lead guitar, and on “Free Bird,” he played slide guitar. Rossington provided the guitar work for “Simple Man” along with Collins. He used a variety of Gibson guitars, including Gibson SGs, in addition to the Les Paul.
For the majority of his career, he has used Marshall and Peavey Amplifiers. Rossington was one of 20 passengers who survived the plane crash near McComb, Mississippi on October 20, 1977.
In 1980, Rossington and Collins formed the Rossington Collins Band. The band released two albums before breaking up in 1982, following the death of Collins’ wife, Kathy.
He then formed The Rossington Band with his wife, Dale Krantz-Rossington, and released two albums in 1986 and 1988.
Rossington managed to remain a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd until his death in 2023. With the death of bassist Larry Junstrom (2019), he became the band’s final surviving original member.

Gary Rossington Death:
Rossington suffered a heart attack on October 8, 2015, necessitating the cancellation of two Lynyrd Skynyrd concerts. He had emergency heart surgery in July 2021. On March 5, 2023, he died at the age of 71.
