Kurt Kitayama Career:

Kitayama tied for third place in the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships, 15-17 age group, at the 2008 U.S. Open course Torrey Pines, South Course, San Diego, California, against an international field that included Bryson DeChambeau. The Junior Golf Association of Northern California named Kitayama Player of the Year in 2009.

Kitayama went to the University of Nevada-Las Vegas from 2011 to 2015, where he was named to the Academic-All Mountain West team three years in a row. He won the Jackrabbit Invitational in Primm, Nevada, in both 2014 and 2015. Kitayama’s best World Amateur Golf Ranking was 47th.

Kitayama began his professional career in 2015. He had little success on the Web.com Tour in 2016 and 2017, and he was ranked 1174 in the world at the end of 2017.

Kitayama spent the majority of 2018 on the Asian Tour. He started competing in and won a single Asian Development Tour event, the PGM Darulaman Championship in Malaysia. On the Asian Tour, he finished fourth in the New Zealand Open, second in the Royal Cup, and fourth in the Asia-Pacific Diamond Cup Golf, an event co-sanctioned with the Japan Golf Tour.

He finished third in the European Tour Q-School in November 2018 to earn a spot on the 2019 European Tour. He won the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, his second event of the season, by two strokes in late 2018. The Sunshine Tour and the Asian Tour co-sponsored the event. The victory propelled him into the world’s top 200. In March 2019, he became the European Tour’s fastest player to two wins when he won the Oman Open in only his 11th career appearance.

He earned his PGA Tour card in September 2021 by finishing 23rd in the Korn Ferry Tour Finals.

In February 2022, he finished third at The Honda Classic. Kitayama improved on this performance in May 2022, finishing T2 at the Mexico Open.

In March 2023, he won his first PGA Tour event, the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
