Mandla Maseko was a qualified Pilot, a Candidate Officer in the South African Air Force and a DJ. He beat one million people to win a trip to space and become the first black African in space.
He grew up in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria. He also inspired many African youths to pursue a career in science. Also in 2016, he was honored by the Gauteng Education Department.
