Manu Kumar Jain Education:

He earned his B.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 2003.

In 2006, he received his MBA in Management from ESCP Business School. In addition, from 2005 to 2007, he pursued a PGDM in Business Management at the Indian Institute of Management in Calcutta.

After finishing his B.Tech at IIT Delhi, he joined Headstrong as a Senior Associate, where he coded and developed software solutions for investment banks. He worked there for two years until leaving in May 2005.

After that, he began working as a Summer Intern at Tata Administrative Services, where he worked with Tata Tele Services to develop their national rural operations. He worked there as an intern for approximately three months before joining McKinsey & Company as an Engagement Manager after completing his PGPM from IIM Calcutta in 2007. He worked there for about 4 years and 8 months until leaving in December 2011.

He was also interested in making cartoon characters. So he co-created the cartoon series “DINK Couple,” which was inspired by their real-life experiences in Bangalore between August 2011 and December 2012.

Finally, in February 2002, he co-founded Jabong.com, an eCommerce platform for diverse fashion and lifestyle products, which became a huge success. He rose to prominence, and many people became aware of him.

When he was working at Jabong, he noticed a significant increase in traffic, the majority of which was mobile traffic. Manu Jain saw the power of smartphones in India at this point, as more and more people began purchasing smartphones and investing a significant amount of time on various online platforms and social media. He took an interest in establishing a smartphone company in India all of a sudden.

Xiaomi was already aware of him and offered him the position of Managing Director, as well as the large responsibility of introducing Xiaomi to India and establishing its business there. Manu Kumar Jain immediately showed his ability by establishing Xiaomi as India’s number-one smartphone brand in terms of sales. He is now also Xiaomi’s Global Vice President and Managing Director of the Indian Subcontinent, which includes India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka.

He’s also been named to the Fortune and Economic Times 40 Under 40 lists. Manu Jain had also been named one of Business Today’s top leaders under 40 and one of GQ’s 50 most influential young Indians.
