Sam Bankman-Fried Career:
Bankman-Fried started trading international ETFs in the summer of 2013 at Jane Street Capital, a proprietary trading company. He began as an intern but after graduating went back to full-time.
After leaving Jane Street in September 2017, Bankman-Fried relocated to Berkeley where, from October to November of that year, he served as director of development for the Centre for Effective Altruism. He established Alameda Research, a quantitative trading company, in November 2017.

It was disclosed on May 12, 2022, that Bankman-majority-owned Fried’s company Emergent Fidelity Technologies Ltd. had acquired 7.6% of the shares of Robinhood Markets Inc.
It was disclosed in September 2022 that Bankman-Fried had offered Elon Musk billions of dollars to finance the acquisition of Twitter. Investment banker Michael Grimes reportedly stated that Bankman-Fried would be willing to contribute up to $5 billion on April 25, 2022, according to texts made public as part of the litigation between Twitter and Musk during the latter’s planned acquisition of Twitter.
More than $500 million was invested in venture capital businesses by Bankman-Fried, including $200 million in Sequoia Capital. Sequoia issued a positive profile of Bankman-Fried, which it later took down following the FTX financial crisis.
According to the 9 November Bloomberg story, FTX’s connections to Bankman-other Fried’s interests are the subject of an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
The Bloomberg Billionaires Index determined that Bankman-Fried has no substantial wealth as of November 11, 2022. Bankman-Fried was a significant supporter of the Democratic Party and various left-leaning political causes before his wealth began to decline in November 2022.
