Shelly Oberoi Education:
She attended the Faith Academy in New Delhi before enrolling in the Janki Devi Memorial College in Delhi, where she got a bachelor’s degree in commerce. Shelly earned Miss Kamla Rani Award and a scholarship for achieving the top marks while pursuing B.Com. She later went on to earn a master’s degree in commerce from Himachal Pradesh University.
Annamalai University in Tamil Nadu awarded her a master’s degree in philosophy. Shelly Oberoi began her political career in 2013 when she joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). She became an activist after joining the party and took part in various initiatives organised by the party. She was selected as the Aam Aadmi Party’s state vice president of the women’s wing in 2020. In December, she ran in the municipal elections from ward number 86 in East Patel Nagar, Delhi, on the ticket of the Aam Aadmi Party. She defeated her BJP opponent by 269 votes in the elections. Afterward, she was nominated as the AAP’s mayoral candidate.
On 22 February 2023, in her fourth attempt at the Mayoral poll, she was elected Mayor of Delhi with 150 votes; the BJP’s Rekha Gupta received 116 votes.
In September 2014, Shelly Oberoi began working as an assistant professor at Delhi University. She began working as an assistant professor at the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) in Mumbai in January 2021. She has published over 35 research papers and journals during her teaching career.
She has also served on the Cybernomics Academic Reviewer Board. Shelly Oberoi has also taught at universities in New Delhi, including Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and Indira Gandhi National Open University (INGNOU).
