Vladlen Tatarsky, was born in 1982 in Makiivka, Donetsk Oblast, Ukrainian and later acquired Russian citizenship. He was imprisoned in Ukraine in 2011 for bank robbery.

Vladlen Tatarsky was pardoned by Donetsk People’s Republic President Alexander Zakharchenko and given the opportunity to fight alongside the Vostok Battalion against the Ukrainian army during the Donbas War.

He began blogging under the pseudonym Vladlen Tatarsky after serving in the military.

In retrospect, Vladlen would later state that “thousands of Russian officers” had served in the region since October 2014, contradicting the official Russian position that the Russian Federation would not be militarily involved in mainland Ukraine until 2022. Tatarsky lived in Moscow from 2019 to 2023, when he died.

Tatarsky was a well-known figure among Russian military bloggers, who were known for their unconditional support for the Russo-Ukrainian War. He had over 560,000 Telegram followers and was known for his hardline views, criticizing Russian military commanders and Vladimir Putin for being too soft in their approach.

Tatarsky, as a blogger, has advocated for more attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, resulting in more Ukrainian casualties. He frequently referred to Ukraine as a “terrorist state” and advocated for its annihilation.

Tatarsky was sanctioned by Ukraine due to his views and involvement in the conflict. He was barred from entering the country for ten years, and any assets found in Ukraine belonged to him were confiscated.

Tatarsky was killed in an explosion on April 2, 2023, while hosting an event at a cafe in St. Petersburg. Yevgeny Prigozhin, a Russian businessman with close ties to the Kremlin and the head of the infamous paramilitary Wagner Group, was said to own the cafe.
