On August 26, 2022, Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra created sports history in Lausanne by being the first Indian to triumph in a Diamond League competition
In his most recent competition, Neeraj made history by becoming the first Indian track and field athlete to earn a silver medal at the World Championships in Eugene last month
Due to fitness concerns, he was unable to compete in the Birmingham-hosted Commonwealth Games. He only made a comeback on Friday, setting a new record
His victory in Lausanne allowed him to not only win the championship in Switzerland but also ensure his qualification for the Diamond League finals, which will be held on September 7 in Zurich
The star athlete from India has also qualified for the Budapest 2023 World Championship. Chopra entered the competition by clearing the qualifying mark of 85.20 metres on his first try
I am delighted with my result tonight. 89m is a great performance. I am specially pleased as I am coming back from an injury and tonight was a good indicator" Chopra said after the event
