A 15-day period known as Pitru Paksha or Shradh begins on the Purnima Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada

The Pitru Paksha for this year will begin today, Saturday, September 10, and end on September 25, Sunday

The timings for the Kutup Muhurat, Rohina Muhurat and Aparahna Kaal for September 10 are as follows: Kutup Muhurat: 11:53 AM to 12:43 PM Rohina Muhurat: 12:43 to 1:33 PM Aparahna Kaal: 1:33 PM to 4:03 PM

Any day throughout this 15-day period may be used to execute the Shradh or pind daan rituals for the ancestors according to Hindu tradition

On the day of Shradh, the family's oldest member bathes, dons new clothing, and wears a Kush grass ring

Kush Grass is used to invoke the ancestors and is seen as a symbol of benevolence

As per Hindu religion, it is thought that during the Pitrupaksha, the ancestors' souls leave Pitrulok and come to earth

The deceased's family members perform Shradh to honour the ancestors around this time every year
