At a very young age, Anuja became immensely interested in music and dancing. Since she was young, she has wanted to be an actress. She grew up studying vocal performance in Hindustani classical music and actively participated in musical theatre in middle school and high school. Anuja finished her Rangapravesam (Full-length solo dance performance) in Kuchipudi when she was only eighteen years old. Joshi received her degree from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She then completed a film direction specialized course at the Kanbar Institute of Film and Television.
