Dasun Shanaka is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer and the current Sri Lankan limited-overs captain. He is a right-handed batter and a right-arm medium-fast bowler who plays as an all-rounder.
Shanaka was formally appointed as Sri Lanka’s T20I captain in February 2021, ahead of their tour of the West Indies, replacing Lasith Malinga. Shanaka was also named captain of Sri Lanka’s One Day International (ODI) squad for their series against India in July 2021. Shanaka led Sri Lanka to victory in the 2022 Asia Cup, the team’s sixth title.

Dasun Shanaka Career:
In July 2015, he was named to Sri Lanka’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for a series against Pakistan. On August 1, 2015, he made his T20I debut as Sri Lanka’s 58th T20I cap.
On the same tour, he made his Test debut for Sri Lanka against England on May 19, 2016. On June 16, 2016, he made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Ireland.
Shanaka was named captain of Sri Lanka’s T20I squad for the series against Pakistan in September 2019. Sri Lanka won the first T20I by 64 runs under his captaincy. Sri Lanka’s first T20I victory over Pakistan in six years.
Shanaka was named Sri Lanka’s T20I captain again in February 2021, this time for a series against the West Indies.
After Sri Lanka lost the series against England in June 2021, Kusal Perera was removed as captain, and Shanaka was reappointed for the limited-overs series against India.
Shanaka captained Sri Lanka in the 2022 Asia Cup Twenty20 series, which was held in the United Arab Emirates in September 2022.
Gujarat Titans (GT) have named Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for Kane Williamson for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.
