Nirmala Mishra Career:

On the eve of Durga Saptami, she was born in Majilpur as the daughter of Pandit Mohinimohana Mishra and Bhabani Devi. Later, her family relocated to Kolkata’s Chetla due to her father’s employment. The atmosphere in her family was musical. Both the elder brother Murarimohan Mishra and father Pandit Mohinimohan Mishra were well-known singers.

She was given the opportunity to perform a song for the first time in 1960 in the Odia film Shri Lokanath by music director Balakrushna Das. She has performed in several well-known Odia motion pictures, including Stree, Kie Kaahaara, Kaa, Abhinetree, Anutap, Amadaa Baata, Malajanha, and Adina Megha.

She sang “Nida bhara raati madhu jhara janha” in the 1975 Odia film “Anutapa,” which was composed by J. Adeni, and it is still regarded as one of the greatest Odia songs ever.

She also performed the female rendition of the famous song “chhapi chhapi baasanti raati..” from the 1967 film “Bhagya,” which was composed by the renowned Laxmikant-Pyarelal team and made famous by the great Odia singer Akshay Mohanty.

Bolo to arshi, Kagojer phul bole, Eamun Ekta Jhinuk, and Abese mukh rekhe piyal dale are some of her contemporary songs. Mone Mone Koro, The list is endless and includes Eai banglar mati tea, Ami to tomar, O tota Pakhi rea, Unmona mon swapne, Ogo tomar akash duti choke, Chotto Sea kotha Bhalobasa, etc.

She has also performed many other songs, including Nazrul Geeti, Rabindra Sangeet, Shyama Sangeet, patriotic songs, and folk songs. Manna Dey, Pratima Bandhophadhay, Manabendra Mukhophadhay, Sandhya Mukhophadhay, Shipra Basu, and many other singers are just a few of the artists that Nirmala Mishra has collaborated with.
