Simranjit Singh Mann Education:

He received his education at the Bishop Cotton School in Shimla and the Government College in Chandigarh. In the topics of “History,” “Punjabi,” “Religion,” and “Political Science,” he won gold medals.

Simranjit Singh Mann Political Career:

In 1966, he appeared for the Central Civil Services Examination. In 1967, he enlisted in the Indian Police Service and served in the Punjab cadre. He worked as an ASP in Ludhiana, SSP in Ferozepur, SSP in Faridkot, AIG in the Punjab-Patiala division, and Deputy Director of the Vigilance Bureau in Chandigarh, among other roles.

On June 18, 1984, he submitted his resignation from the Indian Police Service in opposition to Operation Blue Star.

In November 1989, after being unconditionally released “in the interests of the State” and having all accusations against him dismissed, he was elected to the Lok Sabha in the State of Punjab while absent.

When Mann insisted on carrying a Kirpan into the session, a holy practice in the Sikh Faith, he was refused access into the Sansad Bhavan (Parliament building) in 1990. He then protested by giving up his seat.

Following Mann’s election to the Lok Sabha, the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered the Indian government and Chandigarh’s passport office to issue him a passport on November 3, 1999.

Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra of the Aam Aadmi Party defeated him from the Amargarh Assembly Constituency in the Punjab Legislative Assembly election of 2022. By a margin of 7000 votes, he won the 2022 Lok Sabha election.

On June 26, 2022, Simranjit Singh Mann defeated the incumbent party’s nominee for a Lok Sabha seat previously held by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Simranjit Singh Mann won the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat against Gurmail Singh of the AAP by a margin of more than 7,000 votes.
