Bipin Rawat Education:
He did schooling from Cambrian Hall School, Dehradun and St Edward’s School in Shimla. He attended the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla and the IMA (Indian Military Academy), Dehradun. He is also a Graduate of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington Cantonment, Tamil Nadu, India and the Higher Command Course at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, United States.
He earned an MPhil in Defence Studies from Madras University and also awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy by CCS (Chaudhary Charan Singh) University, Meerut for his research on military-media strategic studies.
Bipin Rawat Career:
He was commissioned into the 5th Battalion of 11 Gorkha Rifles. He has vast experience in high altitude warfare and counterinsurgency operations.
During the 1987 face off in the Sumdorong Valley, he led his battalion as a colonel against the Chinese PLA (People’s Liberation Army).
In June 2015, eighteen Indian soldiers were killed by militants belonging to the UNLFW (United Liberation Front of Western South East Asia) in Manipur. The Indian Army responded with cross-border strikes in which units of the 21st battalion of the Parachute Regiment struck an NSCN-K base in Myanmar. 21 Para was under the operational control of the Dimapur based III Corps, which was then commanded by General Bipin Rawat.
On September 2016, he became the Vice Chief of Indian Army.
On 1 January 2017, he became the 26th Chief of Army Staff of Indian Army.
