John Brzenk is an American professional arm wrestler. Brzenk, one of the sport’s most decorated wrestlers, was named the “Most Successful Arm Wrestler” in the 2000 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records and recognized as “the greatest arm wrestler in the history of the sport” at the World Wristwrestling Championship in 1998. John Brzenk Career:
John started his amateur career in the classroom, where he arm-wrestled students across tables for five years. He broke his arm in eighth grade while arm wrestling his father’s friend.
Brzenk’s ability to pin opponents twice his size has earned him the nicknames “The Giant Crusher,” “Superman,” and “Perfect Storm” over the years.
Brzenk began his professional career at the age of 18 in 1982, when he won his first world title on ABC’s Wide World of Sports in 1983. John has only ever lost one super match, and only a few people have ever defeated him in tournaments. The majority of these losses occurred later in his career when he was older. Two of his most notable defeats came at the hands of legendary arm wrestlers Devon Larratt and Alexey Voyevoda. In addition to arm wrestling, John works as a mechanic for Delta Air Lines.
Brzenk has won world championships in four different weight classes, including four in the heavyweight division and one in the middleweight division. He also made an uncredited appearance in Sylvester Stallone’s 1987 film Over the Top.
After a six-year retirement, John Brzenk defeated Khadzimurat Zoloev on February 10, 2022, to reclaim the world’s top ranking in the 225-pound division.
John Brzenk was defeated in a right-handed super match with Kazakhstan arm wrestler Kydyrgali Ongarbaev on August 6, 2022, at the fourth installment of the international arm wrestling tournament East vs West.
